When Should You Expect to See Physical Results?
by Anna Victoria in Fitness
I want to talk about something that is perhaps one of the most important and most difficult aspects of your journey: how much time it takes to see physical progress. With so many products out there that promise “Lose 10 lbs in 10 days!,” we are often led to believe the weight will just fall off once we get started and, in turn, have unrealistic expectations about when and what progress is supposed to look like.
The truth is, getting real results takes time. If you dropped 10 lbs in 10 days (or even in three months) by using extreme methods like huge calorie deficits or endless amounts of cardio, you would be setting yourself up for failure. Not only are these methods not sustainable in the long run, but putting your body into a situation where it is not fueled properly can actually cause you to hold onto body fat because your survival instincts kick in.

To see results that will last, you need to implement gradual changes. This is why the Fit Body App only suggests a 500 calorie deficit each day while strength training. That way, you are still fueling your body properly, losing fat, and building muscle.
I know how upsetting it can be to work so hard and then take accountability photos and feel like you’re not seeing the results you expected. And, especially when you see others achieving amazing progress in four, eight or twelve weeks, it’s easy to feel like you’re not keeping up.
This is why, first and foremost, I don’t want you to compare your progress to anyone else’s. Not to mine, not to another FBG girl, not to ANYONE. We all have different starting points and it’s not fair to judge your journey just because it doesn’t look like someone else’s. It’s important to differentiate between inspiration and comparison!
Even if you begin your journey at the same time as someone else, you will have different progress. We are all different. Our bodies each react to exercise differently, to eating healthy differently, and we progress in different timeframes.
One thing is for sure: the only way you won’t see results is if you give up. Don’t let your progress (or someone else’s) be a reason to keep you down. Turn it into the fuel you need to keep going and push even harder!
My personal transformation took NINE months. Yes, I saw progress within 6-8 weeks, but even at 6-8 weeks the progress was minimal. Know that eventually small progress adds up to big results!
Whether you see changes as quickly as you’d like or not, you are doing so much good for yourself in more ways than you realize. One of my favorite quotes that has helped me through my entire journey is, “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyways.”
Trust the process, be patient, and promise me you won’t give up. If you are ever feeling particularly down on your progress, don’t hesitate to reach out to me, to another FBG girl or to do a post on your page about how you’re feeling so we can come to you!
We are all in this together and we will help you through.
