New Year’s Cocktail Recipes

by Anna Victoria in Recipes + Nutrition

During the holiday season the drinks can sometimes start to flow, especially after a year like 2020! Alcohol can absolutely be worked into a healthy diet and lifestyle when consumed in moderation, but it’s important to enjoy alcohol responsibly. Many mixed drinks contain a lot of added sugar and extra calories, 1 gram of alcohol contains 7 calories! Enjoying alcoholic beverages in moderation will not derail your progress, but it can if not consumed mindfully. For those that do enjoy a drink every now and there, here are a few festive cocktails to get you in the mood to celebrate. Move over eggnog, you’ve got some competition!

Spicy Cider Margarita

Ingredients:

Unfiltered organic apple cider
Blanco tequila (We used Milagro)
Jalapeño (1 per 4-6 finished drinks)
Limes (½-1 per drink)
Tajin
Cinnamon
Cinnamon Sticks
1 C ice per drink

You’ll Need:

Standard size shot Glass
Cocktail shaker optional

Directions:

Slice jalapeños into rings. Remove most or all the seeds, depending on how spicy you like your drinks. More seeds = more spicy. Be careful touching your face/eyes afterwards, you can use gloves if needed!

On a plate mix equal parts Tajin and cinnamon. Set this aside for the rim later!

In a cocktail shaker with 1 C ice, mix in 2 shots apple cider with 1 shot tequila. Squeeze in the juice from ½ lime (your can use the full lime if your lime isn’t very juicy). Drop in one jalapeño round and shake vigorously or stir well.

Using a cocktail glass, run the leftover lime onto the rim. Press the rim into the tajin/cinnamon mixture. Pour in the completed margarita and garnish with cinnamon stick. Enjoy!
